Steyning Downland Scheme

The Background Story

The Steyning Downland Scheme

In March 2007 a presentation to 50 interested local people took place, which was received very positively.  From this the Steering Group was successfully established representing different stakeholders in the scheme. This group meets regularly and provides an informal basis for consultation and the exchange of ideas and co-ordination of management methods and activities.

In December 2007 a part-time project manager was appointed to the Steyning Downland Scheme, seconded by A Rocha UK. The vision, aims and objectives of the scheme are being implemented through community partnership with volunteers in consultation with the Steering group members and the project manager.

Vision for Steyning Downland scheme

The vision of the Steyning Downland scheme is to provide opportunities for people to consider their responsibility towards and relationship with creation. It aims to invite and enable people to access the landscape, to see and enjoy the beauty of a place that continues to grow and change as it is impacted by human beings. To invite people to explore and experience creative and constructive ways of engaging with creation and appropriately caring for it.
